Fitness, Health & Wellbeing : Portugal 2024
Is this the right retreat for me? Please read this information before proceeding with your booking
FITNESS & MOBILITY
A visit to Portugal can feel like stepping back in time. Although a thoroughly modern economy, it cherishes its traditions and heritage. One example of this is the cobblestone roads and pavements you’ll find in every city, town and village. Most of the restaurants we visit during the retreat are within 10-minutes walk of our hotel and we are planning to walk both ways and not take taxis. It is important that you are comfortable about this so anyone who is not steady on their feet or not completely mobile will find it challenging.
The Pousada Convento hotel where we are staying is a renovated and converted monastery built in 1485 for the friars of Loios. The bedrooms are all former monk’s cells! It is a historic building and has no elevator (the hotel staff will carry your bags on arrival and departure). The majority of rooms are on the first floor (what is called the second floor in the US) and are accessed by a flight of stone stairs with a handrail. There are some rooms on the second floor (known as the third floor in the US) and these are accessed via a narrower staircase with a handrail. All the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with bathtubs and overhead showers rather than walk-in showers so you will need to feel comfortable about climbing in and out of a bathtub.
HEALTH & WELLBEING
Because close social grouping is at the heart of what we do, it is not possible for us to accommodate anyone who is immunocompromised. If you have an underlying health condition that makes it risky for you to be in a restricted space with others, this is not going to be the right retreat for you. We will not be enforcing mask wearing or testing during the retreat, but you are welcome to do either/both as you see fit.
We strongly recommend that you take out adequate travel insurance before you attend the retreat.
