The Yarns

Cocoknits at Goodnestone, 11-19 October 2026

Our beautiful yarns come from the fleece of Romney sheep raised on a local farm owned by Kristina and Paul Boulden whose family have farmed the Romney Marsh since 1882. Read about Romney Marsh Wools here: romneymarshwools.co.uk

The yarn selection has been naturally dyed for us by Alice Schmid of Woolmatters Fibre Co who grows Marigold, Coreopsis, Dahlia, Calendula, Cosmos, Scabiosa, Dyer’s Chamomile flowers and Madder for roots that give the most glorious reds! Creating strong and vibrant colours with plant dyes, Woolmatters Fibre Co work inside a bio-regional textile system supporting local fibres and craftsmanship. The shades have been created for their beauty and repeatability. Natural dyeing is not an exact science as it depends on the pigments in the dye material provided by mother earth and the final shades can vary a little from the shades shown in the photographs. Yarn Care: The yarns have been prepared using mineral salt binders and are colourfast. Handwash in lukewarm water with a wool wash is recommended. Dry flat and remember to keep your knits out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.
